In October 18, 2007, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were taken by police officers from their homes in the middle of the night. They were then jailed without proper cause for revealing grand jury proceedings which sought after reporters’ scribbled notes that covered the Sherriff of Arizona.
Both Lacey and Larkin are professional journalists, they are co-founders of the Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media.
After Lacey and Larkin were arraigned in court, the grand jury went to the extreme and demanded identities of the citizens who had read the New Times article online, that was on the Maricopa Counry Sheriff Joe Arpaio. This absurd orders led to Lacey and Larkin suing the county of Arizona, regardless of how they had spent their careers defending and asserting their rights to the First Amendment.
They later worn the case and received $3.75 million in settlement. The two journalists shocked many when they used all the proceeds from the settlement to start the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.
The country of America has been at the forefront of championing of human rights. This is because, human rights form a basis upon which the country was founded on. Regardless of this, Lacey and Larking are proof of the government been able to abuse its powers and deny individuals their legal rights and due process.
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is an organization that strongly advocates for the civil, human, and migrant rights, given that everyone is at risk of been denied their rights. For people living in countries that are prone to terrorist organizations and dictatorship governments, human rights are disrespected on unprecedented levels.
Millions of people tend to lose their lives, families, money, and all that they have worked for. It is the human rights organizations that fight day and night for people to be able to revive their lost belongings and at least have access to basic life amenities that they need to survive.

They then changed their name to AILA in 1982 and set up their headquarters in Washington, D.C. By 2012, AILA had increased their members to over 12,000. This great improvement is testimony that human rights require respect and the right to proper living.
